Laurie McLeman joined the NNA board of trustees in March 2012. Nominally retired he feels that he has never been busier. And with three sons and five grandchildren spread across the UK, Walking for Fun twice a month, seeing Newcastle United win every now and then, and the occasional Real Ale, he finds his time running away.
Laurie has had a full career in construction, working on site, with a large firm of architects, lecturing at university and finishing back with a construction company in Guernsey as commercial director. He is still very involved with the Chartered Institute of Building, serving on the Fellowship Committee, lead examiner on the mature member route, and until recently as chair of the Investigation Panel as part of the Professional Conduct Committee. He has also had over 30 years with the Reserve Forces including being Commanding Officer of the Royal Engineer Regiment in Gateshead.
Laurie is a trustee board member of the Citizen’s Advice Bureau at Darlington and a generalist adviser in North Shields.
Since joining as a trustee he has become the company secretary and deputy treasurer and hopes that mixed career and taking on these duties will enable him to fully contribute to the NNA.
